High storage, induction loop and COSINUS SLIDE® expansion joints

Changing operational requirements for warehouses, force the space organization in the form of high storage, very narrow corridors and the introduction of management systems using modern equipment with automatic control. Complicated system forklift trucks used to work in narrow corridors in facilities of this type require induction loops embedded in the floor for their operation.

This gives great savings associated with increasing the density of storage and increasing the efficiency of internal transport and thus increasing the efficiency of the entire warehouse.

The correct and safe trucks operation in very narrow corridors of high storage warehouses necessitates the production of industrial floors with parameters significantly exceeding the standard requirements. To guarantee high forklift speeds, no shocks and vibrations when passing through expansion joints, silent operation and precision of loading and unloading at the highest levels of racks - the floor must be made in accordance with the marked high parameters regarding evenness and flatness.

The tolerance of flatness and smoothness of the industrial floor surface is strictly dependent on the speed and manner of movement of trolleys in the warehouse, the storage height and width of the corridors. Failure to adapt the floor to the truck parameters (lifting height and travel speed) could damage the shelves and the truck.

Each minimal unevenness of the floor negatively affects the deviations from the vertical of the forklifts' lifts, the higher the lift is, the even the minimal unevenness of the floor results in its greater deviation from the vertical and its vibrations, sometimes requiring several dozen seconds to stabilize.

VNA forklift trucks system are one of the most complex devices used in warehouse facilities to work in narrow corridors. Due to the size and specificity, an induction loop embedded in the slab is used to guide them. Expansion joints are becoming a problem. The cut expansion joints generate shocks and vibrations of passing trucks, in addition over time the edges of concrete on unreinforced expansion joint gaps crumble and the problem increases. Vibrations and shocks at joint crossings will limit the speed of the trucks and their tilt from the vertical. In the case of steel expansion profiles, the requirement is that the distance between the cable generating the magnetic field and the metal reinforcement of the floor should not be less than 50mm. It is also necessary to take into account the weakening of the slab resulting from the incision of the concrete, which is necessary for laying the induction loop. COSINUS SLIDE® sinusoidal expansion joints were perfectly installed in September 2019 by the company WALBET ADK Walkowiak Sp. J. at the construction site of TB Logistics Leszno in Maryszewice (Lipno commune). The 35,000 m2 hall was built next to the Euro-Comfort and Euroline factories. The investor is the German entrepreneur Thomas Busskamp, owner of both factories. The center's capacity is around 70-80 thousand pallets. In the jointless floor with fields of about 1000m2, induction threads were used to control the high-storage trucks (JUNGHEINRICH) cutting expansion joints. The work of the induction loop led through COSINUS SLIDE® expansion joints works very well despite previous fears! COSINUS SLIDE® expansion joints have no negative impact on the operation of the induction and cart.

The COSINUS SLIDE® sinusoidal expansion joints used provide very high comfort to application drivers who do not even feel the moment of passing through the expansion joint. The ride is noiseless, free from any shocks and even the slightest vibrations, wheel connections do not lose their grip with the floor even for a moment. Transfers are not important either. The COSINUS SLIDE® expansion joint profile perfectly match the high requirements for even flooring and also contributes to increasing the the efficiency of the entire warehouse.
